On June 30th I teamed up with my wife, Laurie Kearney, to race the San Diego International Triathlon. After 10+ years of marriage, all in a row I might add, this was the first relay we have competed in. We had a great time!

It is critical that a relay team have a good name. Our name was “We pick up loose change & still beat u!” Laurie and I have a habit of picking up loose change we find during our bike and run workouts. We consistently find $30-40 every year.

I did the 1K swim (14:15) and 30K bike (49:31) while Laurie did the 10K run (45:45). We finished in 1:52:19, placing 3rd in the mixed relay category and getting on the podium.

Triathlon legend Bill Bell did the Sprint Triathlon – half the distance of our race, but still plenty challenging as he would still need to do the climb to Cabrillo Monument on his bike. Bill is 90 years old!
